Mark Kreynovich and Dillon Carroll, two recent Cornell graduates, have dropped everything in their lives to provide humanitarian aid during the crisis in Ukraine. On March 3, Mark and Dillon flew to Vienna, Austria to assist refugees near the Ukrainian borders. Mark is from Kharkiv, Ukraine and has lived in the Baltimore area for much of his life.
Inspired by Mark and Dillon’s service to the Ukrainian people, Milk Reclamation Barn has created a candle with the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The blue represents the open sky, while the yellow symbolizes fields of wheat. All proceeds from the sales of the Ukraine candles will go directly to the mission and the WCK. Cash donations have been used for purchasing supplies and other direct expenses for Ukrainian refugees.
So far, Mark and Dillon have:
Along with Mark and Dillon’s mission, Milk Reclamation Barn will be donating the Ukraine candle proceeds to the World Central Kitchen (WCK). The WCK provides fresh meals to civilians directly impacted by natural and manmade crises. Since the crisis in Ukraine began, the WCK has been working tirelessly to ensure thousands of Ukrainian refugees are fed:
“Working at a 24-hour pedestrian border crossing in southern Poland, WCK began serving hot, nourishing meals within hours of the initial invasion, and we are now serving round-the-clock dishes at eight border crossings across the country. Additionally, we are supporting local restaurants preparing meals in 12 Ukrainian cities including in Odessa, Lviv, and Kyiv. WCK teams are also on the ground serving thousands of meals every day in Romania, Moldova, and Hungary . . . As the situation continues to evolve, WCK will continue to help in the best way we know how, with a freshly prepared plate of food—and we're ready to expand our support for families in need.”
